Milton Keynes LeasingIn the 1967, the UK Government decided that a further generation of new towns in the East of England was needed to relieve housing congestion in London and so Milton Keynes was born. It took the name of the village of Milton Keynes, in Buckinghamshire, which was originally known as Middletone in the 11th century. Incredibly, according to Destination Milton Keynes, the town has more bridges than Venice – a city built on water. What’s more, the size of its lakes means it’s got a longer coastline than Jersey. It also has more show homes than anywhere else in the UK. Olympic long jumper Greg Rutherford grew up in Milton Keynes and still lives in the town's Woburn Sands area. In 2014, a giant metal statue called the "Leaping Man" was erected in his honour near junction 13 of the M1 Motorway. The legend Cliff Richard decided for his 'Wired for Sound' music video to head over here to Milton Keynes for filming. Residents may be able to remember at the time that he donned a pair of retro roller skates and whizzed around the town as well as at the shopping centre. The Fenny river lock in Milton Keynes is the smallest canal lock in the country. You can visit the area today and there is a nice pub there which can be enjoyed - when the country isn't placed in a coronavirus lockdown. |
