The words 'Dorman Long and Co. Middlesbrough England'are stamped into the steel of the world famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The name Mydilsburgh is the earliest recorded form of Middlesbrough’s name and dates to Anglo-Saxon times (400–1000 AD), while many of the original villages that became part of the town appear in the Domesday Book of 1086.

The popular Transporter bridge of Middlesbrough is the only one of its kind in UK where bungee jumping is allowed legally.  

Middlesbrough consists of Marton, which is birthplace of a very famous Captain Cook who is known as a one of the best voyagers in the world.  

Former students at Cleveland College of Art and Design include Sir Ridley Scott; Curtis Jobling, the creator of Bob the Builder; and artist Mackenzie Thorpe.

Associated with the making of steel on Teesside is the construction of bridges, one of the industries for which the area has achieved international recognition. Chief among the bridge building firms was Dorman Long, a firm which began as an iron and steel works in 1875 manufacturing bars and angles for ships.
