Leamington Spa is a town in central England, close to Stratford Upon Avon, Warwick and Kenilworth. Set on the River Leam, it’s known for its Regency architecture and broad boulevards. The colonnaded Royal Pump Rooms, a 19th-century bathhouse, now houses the Leamington Spa Art Gallery. It includes a local history gallery or cooling room. Jephson Gardens is a park with formal flowerbeds and a glasshouse for tropical plants and Birds.

Royal Leamington Spa is a beautiful and prosperous town located in Warwickshire. With a current population of around 52,000, the town’s growth was largely due to the natural spa springs that were discovered and commercialised in the nineteenth century.

A slipway to the River Leam was used by local circus people to wash their animals, including elephants! The Elephant Wash slipway is still there today.

The only other royal towns in England is Royal Tunbridge Wells.  Leamington Spa was granted the title in 1838 by Queen Victoria.

The very first lawn tennis club in England was formed in Leamington Spa in 1872 at the Manor House Hotel.

By all accounts Crowley didn’t spend a lot of time in Leamington Spa, but local folklore suggests that in later life he placed a curse on anyone born in the town and deemed it impossible for them to ever escape.

Best known for inventing the Jet Engine, Frank Whittle learned his engineering skills in his father’s workshop – the Leamington Valve and Piston-Ring Co., which was located on Clinton Street

The wickedest man in the world, Aleister Crowley was born in Clarendon Square in Leamington Spa, in 1875.

The town , originally known as Leamington Priors was a tiny village until about 1800. The value of the mineral springs was known in the middle ages, but it was not until 1784 that the small village began rediscovering its saline springs and started building baths around them.

Inside the Jephson Gardens park there is a memorial fountain commemorating seven members of the Free Czechoslovak Army. This army was based in Leamington during the Second World War after its home country was occupied by the Nazis.

Leamington Spa is surrounded by the rolling Warwickshire countryside and full of varied shops, classic restaurants, grand boulevards and whitewashed Regency buildings.
