Kingswood is a town and civil parish in the South Gloucestershire district of the ceremonial county of Gloucestershire, England. The town is situated 3 miles east-northeast of Bristol.

Kingswood was closely associated with the 18th-century Methodist leaders George Whitefield and John Wesley. It was formerly a dormitory community for colliers employed on the Somerset coalfield and has continued as a largely residential area for Bristol.

Kingswood takes its name from the Chase or the King's Wood, a Royal hunting ground, which extended from Barton Regis well beyond what is now St George.  

The Forest of Kingswood in south Gloucestershire appears originally to have been a royal domain appurtenant to the palace of the Saxon kings at Pucklechurch, where in 940 King Edmund was assassinated.

Whitefield's sometimes Whitfield's Tabernacle is a former Calvinistic Methodist and Congregational (now United Reformed) church in Kingswood, a town on the eastern edge of Bristol where George Whitefield preached in the open air to coal miners.

Kingswood School was founded by John Wesley in 1874 (then known as King's Wood) near Bristol as a school for the children of the local colliers. The ministers in the early Methodist Church were itinerant and the school started to accept their children as boarders.

The local legend that a circus elephant is buried at Holy Trinity Church.

Kemp Brothers’ clock-makers of Union Street Bristol installed the clock at Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, (opposite) and it is still in perfect working order.

On 15th November 1899 Queen Victoria opened the Convalescent Home near the Downs later to become Bristol Maternity Hospital and now used as offices.

Kingswood did not then exist as a separate town. Bitton was the administrative centre of the area, with chapelries at Hanham and Oldland but the Annals include much that we now refer to as South Gloucestershire, Siston, Mangotsfield, Wick & Abson, and beyond, occasionally as far as Yate, Frampton Cotterell and Westerleigh.
