Enfield Leasing Did You Know?Situated approximately twelve miles north of London, Enfield is London 's most northern borough. A busy market town dating back to start of the 1300's. It offers the visitor an eclectic mix of countryside, parks, markets and shopping centres. The Barclays Bank branch in Enfield was the first place in the world to have a cash machine; it was officially opened in June 1967 by Reg Varney from Off The Busses actor. Trent Park previously owned by the monarchy during Tudor times was part of Enfield Chase a predominantly woodland area where royal deer were kept. The park surrounds a wonderfully built mansion dating back to 1914, which is now home to Middlesex University . However, during the Second World War the mansion was used to house high ranking captured German military personnel. John Keats the poet originally attended Progressive Clarke’s School in Enfield, where he began a translation of the Aeneid. The Rose & Crown Pub in Enfield dates back to the 15 th Century and was once owned by the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin's Grandfather Mr Mott. Dick Turpin is probably best known for highway robberies upon his trusty horse Black Bess. It is said that Dick would hide in the pub to avoid capture and that his ghost still haunts the pub today. Enfield has the longest length of river corridor in London, known as the New River Loop, which covers more than 43 kilometres and passes through Enfield Town. The classic paranormal comedy movie 'Ghostbuster' introduced us to an array of spirits and demons, including Gozer the Destructor but this wasn't the first place Gozer was mentioned, in fact it was six years early at the haunted house in Enfield. The Enfield case was so well publicised around the world that it didn't take long for Dan Aykroyd to hear about Gozer at around the time he was writing 'Ghostbusters' with his co-star Harold Ramis. He went on to incorporated the dark demon's name into the script, giving the Destructor its second coming. Whitewebbs Park in Enfield is a stunning area made up of an 18 hole golf course, striking woodland and the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport. Situated in the notable pumping station the museum was built in 1898 to service part of the New River. With over 40 years as a producer of musical such as Les Miserables, Phantom, Miss Saigon, Oliver and Cats Sir Cameron Anthony Mackintosh was born in Enfield on the 17 October 1946. Eastenders star Kat Moon or otherwise known as Jessie Wallace was born in Enfield on the 25 th September 1971. With over 40 years as a producer of musical such as Les Miserables, Phantom, Miss Saigon, Oliver and Cats Sir Cameron Anthony Mackintosh was born in Enfield on the 17 October 1946. Eastenders star Kat Moon or otherwise known as Jessie Wallace was born in Enfield. The oldest pub in Enfield Town is Kings Head on the Market Place, which was first recorded in 1516. A sixteenth century manor house, known since the eighteenth century as Enfield Palace, is remembered in the name of the Palace Gardens Shopping Centre (and the hothouses on the site were once truly notable; see below). It was used as a private school from around 1670 until the late nineteenth century. The last remains of it were demolished in 1928, to make way for an extension to Pearson's department store..
