Did You Know?Dunstable is a market town and civil parish in Bedfordshire. It lies on the eastward tail spurs of the Chiltern Hills. Dunstable began life as a small Roman town which they called Durocobrivis. Long before the Romans came to Britain there was a track called the Icknield Way, which cross central England. In the 2nd century the Romans built a road called Watling Street, which crossed Icknield Way at the point where Dunstable stands today. Dunstable's modern structure dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, as do many of the nearby towns/villages. Dunstable was one of the towns that largely supported the Roundheads during the English Civil War. Nearby St Albans in Hertfordshire was the headquarters of the Roundheads, and troops were occasionally stationed at Dunstable. The Cottage Garden Flower Shop in Dunstable, was established in 1898, it is believed to be the oldest independent retail business still trading today.
